How to Unlock New Game Plus

Sword of the Sea new game plus gives your second adventure a boost: retained skills, trick-powered acceleration, and a speedometer to show how fast you’re traveling. Complete the adventure and view the credits to unlock it. Then select New Game Plus from the main menu or the save slot you finished.

You don’t need every collectible before starting. Missing shells and unfinished vendor rewards can carry into your next playthrough, so the return trip can serve as either a collectible hunt or a faster run through familiar terrain.

Avoid Chapter Select during a completion attempt. Switching chapters resets progress for the current playthrough. For New Game Plus Completed, start the mode and follow the adventure through to the credits without using Chapter Select. You can still save and quit between sessions.

What Carries Over, and What Resets?

Your unlocked skills and remaining Tetra carry over. That includes progress toward the mysterious vendor’s rewards, so you can continue purchasing upgrades instead of starting the spending ladder again.

Collected secret shells also carry over. Meanwhile, Ocean Seeds reset, letting you restore the environments and experience their transformations again.

Resource pickups return, too:

  • Treasure chests become available again in NG+ and chapter replays.
  • Fish tiles reset and can award more Tetra.
  • Tetra sources give you another opportunity to finish the vendor’s rewards.

The vendor’s five rewards cost 8,550 Tetra total. The sequence is Tricks for 50, Spin Tricks for another 500, Drop for another 1,000, Super Jump for another 2,000, and a Secret Shell for another 5,000.

Finish any remaining purchases as you revisit the vendor. That final shell counts toward the full collection, so searching the environments alone won’t get you all 50.

How the Wisp Cloak Changes Movement

The Wisp Cloak lets you generate speed-boosting Wisps by performing tricks. You can hold up to five Wisps and activate them when you want an extra burst of speed.

This gives tricks a practical role during travel. A jump, wall ride, or grind can help prepare your next boost while keeping you moving toward the exit.

NG+ also adds a speedometer and the option to keep your score and combo visible during normal exploration. Use the speed display to compare how much momentum you carry through a slope or tunnel, and keep the combo counter visible while practicing scoring routes.

Try these adjustments during your return trip:

  • Perform tricks along your route to generate boosts while progressing.
  • Spend Wisps where you have room to accelerate, rather than aiming a burst directly into a tight turn.
  • Practice familiar ramps and halfpipes before trying to combine high speed with collectible hunting.
  • Watch your combo counter when linking wall rides, grinds, and aerial tricks.

Boosting can push the speedometer beyond 1,000 mph under favorable conditions. Chasing that number is its own challenge; for a completion run, focus on reaching the next objective cleanly.

Use Collectible Trackers Before a Speedrun

Chapter Select is useful for cleaning up missing items before committing to a timed playthrough.

The September 19, 2025 update added collectible trackers to both the chapter selection screen and the pause screen in NG+. Use those counters to narrow your search instead of revisiting every secret location.

There are 50 Secret Shells altogether: 49 across the environments and one from the vendor. Collecting all 50 unlocks water rails in every level, extending an ability otherwise available in Sacred River.

Finish the shell collection before your timed attempt if you want access to that traversal reward throughout the adventure. The additional movement option gives you more ways to connect jumps and routes.

For stele cleanup, keep track of which messages you still need. Their glowing text resets during NG+ and chapter replays, so an active-looking pillar doesn’t necessarily mean its message is missing from your collection.

Combine Completion, Speed, and Score Goals

A single NG+ playthrough can work toward several trophies, provided you manage both your route and your trick score.

TrophyRequirement
New Game Plus CompletedComplete the adventure in NG+ and view the credits
Speed SurferComplete the adventure in under 2 hours
Great ScoreEarn a game-wide high score of 1,000,000 points or higher
New High ScoreBeat your own game-wide high score

Finishing in under two hours awards a 2x completion score bonus. That means 500,000 points earned during gameplay can become the million points required for Great Score.

Your previous high score still matters for New High Score. If that record exceeds one million, reaching the Great Score threshold alone won’t necessarily beat it.

Before starting, finish any collectible cleanup you want to handle through Chapter Select. Then begin NG+, follow the chapters normally, and build score during traversal.

Build Combos Without Losing the Whole Run to Score Grinding

Use groups of jellyfish to extend aerial combos. Alternate between different jellyfish and perform tricks between bounces; repeatedly bouncing on the same jellyfish won’t increase the combo.

Wall rides and grinds can also extend a combo before you land. Alternate tricks while airborne, then land to complete the sequence.

Check your score before committing to more grinding. Once you have enough points for your target after the completion bonus, return to the main route and protect the under-two-hour finish.

The August 29, 2025 update fixed an issue that could award New High Score during a first playthrough. Plan to earn it by surpassing your previous game-wide result at the end of a later run.

Practice the No-Damage Boss Trophy Separately

Untouchable requires defeating Tornamun without taking a single hit. The fight spans the final level, Sky Abyss, and has no checkpoints during the encounter.

Practice it through Chapter Select before or after your NG+ completion attempt. Restarting the fight repeatedly adds pressure to a run already balancing time and score.

During the tower climb, watch for the descending rock waves and steer through clear gaps. In the final water tube, rotate away from the laser and move into open sections to avoid partial fire waves. Use a charged jump over the ring attack that covers the tube’s entire circumference.

The September 19 update made final-chapter retries faster by skipping the introductory cutscene when using Restart Chapter or entering through Chapter Select. The September 23, 2025 patch also fixed a trophy-awarding issue when the final level was started through Chapter Select.

After a successful no-damage fight, continue through the credits for the trophy to unlock.
