How to Unlock the Wisp Cloak

The Sword of the Sea wisp cloak puts extra speed at your fingertips. Purchase it from the Mysterious Vendor for 5,000 Tetra to generate up to five speed-boosting Wisps that you can activate whenever you choose. That gives you another way to accelerate as you surf across dunes, ride walls, and explore the world on your Hoversword.

Tetra is the gold triangular currency scattered throughout the game. The cloak is the most expensive individual ability in the vendor’s lineup:

AbilityTetra Cost

Spin Tricks500
Drop1,000
Super Jump2,000
Wisp Cloak5,000

Keep that 5,000-Tetra price in mind while purchasing other abilities. Buying everything from the Mysterious Vendor also earns the Loyal Customer trophy or achievement.

How to Earn Tetra for the Cloak

Explore beyond the direct story route and collect currency from several activities rather than relying on a single challenge.

Open Chests and Search Side Paths

Treasure chests contain Tetra, with larger hidden chests offering more substantial rewards. Search elevated ledges, isolated rocks, and routes branching away from the main objective. Some chests sit behind short puzzles or platforming detours.

Use high ground to scan the surrounding area before moving on. Hidden currency stacks and glowing objects give you a reason to investigate places that initially look like scenery.

Activate Glowing Fish Tiles

Step on glowing fish tiles whenever you find them. Each awards a small amount of Tetra, and collecting them throughout your journey helps build your balance.

Look above the main route, too. Fish tiles appear in elevated locations, including the shark and dolphin statues in the icy areas.

Break Objects Along Your Route

Smash jars, lamps, crystals, and icebergs as you travel. Individual payouts are small, but clusters let you collect several rewards together.

In Forbidden Valley, break the crystals you encounter while traveling with the dolphin. Use those jumps to collect currency while continuing through the area.

Complete Trick Attack Targets

Trick Attack Altars challenge you to reach a target score within a time limit. Complete their initial target-score challenges for Tetra rewards, using your unlocked tricks to build your score.

Two updates also affect currency collection:

  • The August 29, 2025 update added a Tetra reward for lighting all boats.
  • The September 19, 2025 update made Tetra around certain halfpipes easier to collect.

How to Use the Wisps

The cloak lets you generate up to five Wisps, each providing a speed boost when activated. Choose your activation moment to suit the route ahead.

Practice on an open stretch before experimenting with tighter spaces. Line up your direction before boosting, then try different activation points around waves, ramps, and wall rides to see how the extra speed changes your trajectory.

Terrain matters alongside the boost itself. Speeds can exceed 1,000 mph through a combination of Wisps and physics, including inside circular tunnels. Treat that as a movement experiment rather than a speed you need to reach during ordinary exploration.

For a clearer comparison between attempts, use the speedometer available in New Game Plus. Watch how your speed changes as you adjust your route and boost timing.

Wisp Cloak vs. Ancient Armor and NG+ Rewards

The cloak, Ancient Armor, and New Game Plus displays have separate unlock conditions. If you want speed boosts, save Tetra for the vendor; if you want water rails, hunt shells.

For the shell hunt, use the collectible tracker on the chapter select screen. The September 19, 2025 update added that tracker, along with a collectible tracker in the New Game Plus pause screen, making it easier to identify areas that still need another pass.
